For Thomas Quiter, a power wheelchair isn't just a piece of equipment. It's his independence. Born with a condition that makes his bones extremely fragile, Thomas has experienced more than 1,000 fractures and relies on his wheelchair to navigate everyday life. But restrictive repair policies, limited equipment choices, and lengthy waitlists can leave people like Thomas trapped in their own homes. After 27 years advocating for wheelchair users, Thomas founded the Mobility Independence Foundation to develop affordable, adaptable, open-source mobility equipment that anyone can build, modify, or repair.
